Walking. Many of us local walk in the morning and evening hours for exercize and enjoyment. Most of the streets around anywhere in Julian make interesting walking. Favorites are: Old Cuyamaca Highway (a loop off of highway 79 on your way to Lake Cuyamaca), Pine Hills, Along Main Street and out Farmers Road.

Hiking. There are over one hundred different hiking trails in these mountains. Here are a few.
-Volcan Mountain, entrance out Farmers Road. You will come to a four way intersection go right then immediately left. The entrance comes up on your right.
-Stonewall Mine. As you drive South from Lake Cuyamaca, there is a small brown and white sign on your right that points to the entrance on your left to the Stonewall Mine and Horse camps. keep to your left to come to Stonewall Mine. There is a picnic grounds and a trail that goes up around the old water tank.
-Stonewall peak, across from Paso Pichacho Campground on highway 79 just South of Lake Cuyamaca. About one hours easy hike up to peak. It is named after the Stonewall Mine North of here, not the Boulders you have to climb up at the peak.
-Green Valley Falls, Green Valley Falls Campground, several miles South of Lake Cuyamaca. It is a short hike from the campgrounds to the falls. Someone from a wetter State might walk right past these "Falls". There is just enough water for kids to play. Warning: The rangers try to keep this area clear and it is posted for no glass containers but you never know when some idiot will break a bottle and not clean up the pieces. You and your kids should where shoes while wading. Hiking Trails in Cuyamaca Rancho State Park.

Bicycling: We get many bicycling enthusists who like to take the Laguna Loop up through Ramona, Julian, and Lake Cuyamaca. Most of our streets make are nice for bicycling. I am going to get more information on Mountain Bicycling trails.
