 Within a 15 mile radius of Julian you can go from desert to high mountain. You can find most of the western wildflowers except those exclusive to the coast or above the timberline. Every May, during the week of Mother's Day (See Calendar of Events) the Julian Woman's Club collects examples of wildflowers from the highway edges and private property. They are brought to the Julian Town Hall where they are displayed and named. We have over 100 kinds of flowers. Last year I scanned in 80 of them into my computer. If you want to have a kind identified just e-mail me. skf@abac.com. Because of the elevation change we have a long period of flowering. The desert will bloom two weeks after any rainfall in their area. The chapparel starts blooming in March with blooming slowly working up in elevation until about the end of May or June when the rainfall stops for the year.
